Hi MJA, AntonioLao and all,
I don't think, MJA, that there can exist an infinite quantity of constant quanta particles, or in other words, an infinite quantity of energy since a quantum particle is the smallest quantity of energy. I think, scientists from the nineteens century have held that energy can not be infinite because otherwise there should be light coming from all parts of the universe.
I think AntonioLao, it was Einstein who discovered that light or electro-magnetic radiation, or quanta particles are constituted of gravitational and kinematic forces and he also proved the existence of a time limit, a speed limit and a quantity of energy limit of any particle in the universe. I attribute to Einstein the discovery of the quantum dimension of the universe which I like to call the quantum or the fifth dimension of matter. Einstein had difficulty to see the connection between his fourth dimension of matter and the quantum dimension, but I would say nevertheless, that he also discovered the fifth dimension of matter.

Einstein replaced all forces by the appearance of the metric tensors in his elliptic-hyperbolic field equations of general relativity, first as symmetric then later on his unfinished works on the non-symmetric tensors.Originally Posted by cosvis

Religion is not interested in scientific discoveries in fear of their proof of no God and science is not concerned about the unexplained phenomenon that religion believes in fear of God's existence. The two have been at the opposite ends of the spectrum and all answers will come when the two decide to collaborate.
Hi chazzysaw:
In academia the opposite of religion is philosophy. One based on faith, the other on logic.
The opposite of the scientific discipline is art. One is objective, the other subjective.
When the big bang theory came out, ( A logical conclusion given Hubbles evidence of an expanding universe ) and it appeared to be a created universe, it was the scientists who had problems with it. Hoyle, Einstein, Gold et al.( Einstein later accepted it, albeit reluctantly, he also had problems with probablity governing our universe )
It may be possible to prove a God, but it's impossible to prove no God. You can't prove something does not exist. This includes space aliens, Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, etc.
There is a place for all four major disciplines. I agree cooperation would be helpful.
Best,
Pat
Science declares the universe began 15 billion or so years ago but it seems to me the stronger the telescope the older our universe gets. They also believe a big bang is responsible for it. There are some of us who believe the big bang is still banging. I believe it banged, is banging and will continue to bang because in it there is no such thing as a past or a future no measurement of time. It lives in the NOW.
[quote=mkirkpatrick;39397]Thanks rascal,Stephens a thoughtful man,very profound,a tiny point indeed,for me it is
about breathing out cycle=manifested universe, breathing in cycle=unmanifested universe.
For years I have read science magazines and books about the universe. I remember years ago reading an article about the universe contracting and a thought came to me maybe the universe is breathing. The ever banging Big Bang is the heart of it all and causing it to expand for millions or maybe billions of years and then it has to inhale every now and then.
Science could meet religion if each were to give. Science can’t really ‘give’, since it is based on the real, but suppose the real and fundamental eventually turned out to be in Science that the quantum beat was absolute, nothing hidden within. (Note: the beat is not really a beat since it appears random)
Religion then, naturally having to give more from its stance of invisible happenings, since anything goes there, would say, yes, there is the absolute—the quantum realm, and there is no real holiness about particles and their projection, so let’s drop that aspect.
Actually Austin all particles may just be nothing but holes ergo holiness.
The Holeyness is the Wholiness that blesses the marriage of Religion and Science. Now they can kiss and be one until debts do them part… or their divorce.
