Re: A Little Tiny Point - Stephen Hawking's Universe

    Hi to all,

To my understanding of total cosmic reality, it consists of three different aspects: the physical or natural as the natural sciences; the rational or the logical sciences; and the spiritual or personal sciences that deals with the supernatural or divine revelation. Since all different sciences belong to the same total reality there is harmony and complementarity but no contradictions. If there seems to be contradictions between the different sciences it is due to our lack of understanding and not to the total cosmic reality.

    Yours Cosvis.

Only branches of studies that apply the scientific methods can be called science.
Time independence: [∂E(g)]²=[∂F(a)×∂r(a)]·[∂F(b)×∂r(b)] and Mass independence: a(tr(t)=c²

I agree Antonio, the other major disciplines have other underlying features, i.e. logic, faith, subjective and personal feelings. All are necessary and all help us understand God, man and the universe, and perhaps the most important, at least according to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: Why are we here. I forgot # 42.

Since the scientific methods could never answer the question WHY? Why are we here would imply answers from other disciplines except science.

Surely I dont mean here in TOEQuest. People meeting socially but not really scientifically although the academic discipline called social science does apply the scientific methods.

You're right, but don't tell them that.
Accounting comes under an art. Probably due to our creativity.

Accounting is a step of the scientific methods: if things don't add up then back and do it again but double entries always add up unless something is wrong or missing.

Well we do use arithmatic. I tell my students it's like cooking ( not the books ) but like making a cherry pie you follow a recipe ( not a formula ) and if all the students baked one they would probably all look like a cherry pie , but some sweeter, some more tart, some bigger some with a crisscross crust etc. Same with financial statements. You are right though if you miss something in accounting you're out of balance. GrAFFETI ON THE BATHROOM WALL AT THE UNIVERSITY. Old accountants never die they just lose their balance.

Re: A Little Tiny Point - Stephen Hawking's Universe

    Hi AntoioLao, Pat and all,

I be very careful of trying to redefine meaning of words. Universities still have studies in politics, ethics, theology, art, history etc. As far as I know these are still regarded as sciences. The Oxford Dictionary defines "Science" as: "Systematic and formulated knowledge, the pursuit of this, the principles regulating such pursuit, any branch of such knowledge, (political, moral, natural, etc.)....

    Yours Cosvis.
