Re: A Little Tiny Point - Stephen Hawking's Universe

    Hi Pat and all,

I agree with you and the Church that there was a moment of creation of the universe but to me, the moment of creation could be an eternal moment. To my idea of God who is the eternal principle and creator of everything, exists from all eternity to eternity, apart from the universe that was created at the moment of creation. Since, in my understanding of God, God is eternal, he acts from eternity and thus his creative act of the universe was an internal act. This is also a reason why I think that our universe is eternal and will last for ever.

Physical time or relative time according to Einstein, becomes zero at the speed of light. Since the basic stuff of the universe is energy which in is basic form is radiant light, or quanta particles that travel at the speed of light, it exists in a dimension where there exist no physical or relative time; one could say it exists in eternal time. Physical or relative time came be when the radiant energy was formed into masses that moved slower than the speed of light. If radiant light exist in eternal time, it would support the physical principle, that energy can not be created nor destroyed.

    Yours Cosvis.

Sigh. Nothing can ever be discussed here without resorting to religion. Well, if you want to 'explain' scientific theories with religion, it is ridiculously easy: simply fill in the places in your theory that you don't understand with "god did that." Fortunately (at least for scientists) science doesn't work there. Thus, when talking about scientific theories, god is moot.

Amen to that Neutralino. I pray every day that they will pick up some science.

But what if God did do it?

Do you have a more realistic explanation as to how you get the entire universe from a dimensionless point beginning?

If you do have a plausible explanation please share it with me. Or you could just deny what science now calls " The Big Bang "

But what if God did do it?

We would still be in the same boat, hopefully not an ark, as then God would be a middleman, such as a smart alien of composite complexity, so we'd then have to go on to investigate His Energy that made our energy, as this Guy would still be dependent on what was underneath that made His system of mind.

However, due to the economy, let's skip a step and lay this middle manager off to save on our dwindling research funds.

And this is your better explanation Austin. I'm not saying God did do it, but if not then How? Magic?

Re: A Little Tiny Point - Stephen Hawking's Universe

The scientific evidence is that the universe has a beginning and will have an end. God indeed could be Eternal and Infinite. In fact most theologies believe that, and monotheism believe the universe was created by God. Who knows they may be right. It just seems more LOGICAL that the universe was CREATED by a CREATOR rather than it creating itself ( as it appears to have been created )

Energy and the universe could be eternal an cyclical. A cricket is performing an ongoing investigation on this in

Personally, I'm troubled by the idea of eternal energy having always been around in a certain place in a certain amount with certain qualities. It is as if it is defined as such without ever having been defined in the first place (being forever here). Nor do I see how anything tied to time (movement) could have already completed a "forever", as infinities never can.

Re: A Little Tiny Point - Stephen Hawking's Universe

    Hi Austin;

As you know my belief in God rests in faith and not logic. It's not logical to believe in something I can't even define.

And yet the best evidence is that the universe was created and will have an end. I like the cyclic universe model you mentioned, but the best theory says it will die a very lonely cold death. Can the protons ever become unstable with a 1/2 life and break apart?

All I know is that we have a lot of explaining to do regarding the creation of the universe, Earth, life, intelligent life, you and I. I think using the principle of Occams razor God is the simpliest explanation for the above.

    Best,

    Pat
