Yes and much more. It is the concept of duality, becoming a unified singularity, ( and the two shall become one ). We all know and accept that the universe, and you and I are built on positive and negative charges which balance and makes things neutral and give it the dynamics of attraction and repulsion, action and reaction.
Yin is the female component ( passive and yielding ) Yang is the male component ( firm and active ). Truly both of these are necessary to have intercourse and the procreation of the species.
Vive la differences.
Best,
Pat
Allow me, Dipayan, to add the Li and Ki delivery here. Yin and Yang are only the material opposites, such as male and female (and the other forms Pat alluded to), while Li and Ki are the material versus the spiritual opposites (from: neo-confusianism). Ultimately, the spiritual world does not contain a single overarching entity, rather it is the overarching principle that is thought to exist on top of the various material deliveries. As such a unifying principle can be found (but no singularity, Pat; I know, small difference). Many unifying principles are thought to exist (because there is a large variety of opposites possible).
The difference between a structure based on unification and a structure without unification hinges on the question if nothing is just plain nothing or if nothing is mighty fundamental. Read In Search of a Cyclops with titillating mathematical evidence (see homepage) to find out if separation belongs to the fundamental basics of our universe - or not.
Prof,
Some Yin has been liberated, being very active, adding to the confusionism, and some Yang has been demoted to manual labor. When they meet halfway, all is bliss.
