I also think the Universe follows the probablistic model. There is a probability that an comet might hit the earth. It is not predetermined...

If deterministic than everything has been preordained since the beginning. This would be the universe Einstein wanted, every course being able to be determined exactly.

Probabilistic of course means that probability theory surely is important in predicting outcomes but nothing is known for certain.

I favor the probabilistic model in that it allows for degrees of freedom and therefore allows for our own limited freedom. This implies I'm responsible for my own degree of freedom and consequently my actions.

What our your's and other members thoughts on this subject?

Best,

Pat

Just as Jupiters gaseous state [hydrogen and helium] and gravitational pull in our outer logos[universe] intercepts meteorites as they come within the range of Jupiters gravity, the higher aspect of our soul acts as the protective big brother on the block for our wayward thoughts in the subtle universe of our mind or inner logos.
The microcosm is the refelection of the macrocosm.

Certainly, something seems to be drifting in a gaseous state!

People look after the things they have affection for. It is thus essential that we learn to have affection for the planet that sustains us.

"The sense of threat from every quarter of what is known as the Establishment – which is to say, of modern civilization – is not altogether a put-on or an act for many of these young folk, but an actual condition of soul. The break-off is real, and what is being bombed and blown up outside are actual symbols of interior fears." - Joseph Campbell

Hi Drifter;

I'm still a little confused about your quote regarding destiny.

[quote=Drifter;44641]Man's earthly life is controlled by the power of Destiny,

For me following the definition of destiny:

des·ti·ny (dst-n) KEY

NOUN:
pl. des·ti·nies
  1. The inevitable or necessary fate to which a particular person or thing is destined; one's lot.
  2. A predetermined course of events considered as something beyond human power or control:
  3. The power or agency thought to predetermine events:
Man would not be responsible for his destiny, which I personally don't believe. Could you clarify your thoughts on this? i.e. Is he or is he not responsible for his life?

Thanks,

Pat

Hi Dipayankar;

No I don't believe in predestination. I believe we are responsible for our own lives.

Best to you,

Pat

WOW! What a question. It's like comparing the Buddha with the Christ. I have great respect for all 4 individuals and am very glad we had all four. Do you have a favorite?

Best to you Dip,

Pat

Re: An Idea - 01-19-2008, 07:47 PM

Hi Dipayankar;

So maybe we can go back to the beginning again.

Let us say for sake of discussion that the photon may be viewed as a dimensionless point. Wouldn't we still have to build up to 3 dimensions?

In math if you stretch a point you form a line.
Let's say your dimensionless point photon gets stretched into a line of very, very high degree of gamma radiation, such that it appears to be a line, or a 1 dimensional entity, if that line gets stretched perpendicular to it self,or closes on itself, in math you get a 2 dimensional entity. Do you think what is conceptually correct in math could be true in reality.

I would like us to get to our 3 dimensional reality here.

Your comments sir,

Pat

First we need to decide is there anything that we can say as being dimensionless???
