How does society best avoid oppression? If you have an oppressive upper class controlling an oppressed lower class, or an oppressed lower class rising up violently to oppress the oppressors, either way there is oppression. But is there a responsible administration of wealth and power that works without oppression? Or is there a responsible redistribution of wealth that treats the wealthy with equality? And at the bottom line, is there a solution that doesn’t destroy personal initiative?

Yeah Bogie, of course there is, but it seems impossible of talking seriously about it on ToeQuest, without someone's negative ego wanting to take a big crap, in the middle of every positive conversation__about these issues...

Why are we living longer now?

Because we need to, to cover off a generation that did not decide to have children....

I have used my sweat equity to earn a wage, the taxes of which are funding the education and all social systems.

If we are turning out people who neither want to play the game by the existing rules, or step up to the plate and show a better way, then let the chips fall where they may.....

And whatever it is now, or turns out to be, one must go with the flow to survive.

To thrive, one needs to be on the projection curve......which way is the pony going to jump when they open the gate? Bronc riding logic.....

Have just arrived and read the last several posts as relate to class distinctions and economics.

Others assign a designation of class to me, based upon my performance within the parameters of the conditions that I am born into.

If I compete successfully, by the rules of the existing game, I am an elitist?

Give me a break.......

Born a poor white child, and am moderately comfortable now.

By third world standards. a rich B-----.

No E.I., no government incentives, just sweat equity.

I pay my taxes, provide leadership in my community, and give away plenty.

How does that make me a bad person?

Because I can't save them all?

I didn't write the rules and I do not feel the need to be a martyr.......

LW….Success in life, personal initiative does not make you an elite. So you do not stand accused by me. Who said you were bad or had to become a martyr?? An intellectual is one directed by scholarly pursuit.

Could we get it straight that an “elite” is one of the super-class? One who holds power over other lives? Those who are the super-wealthy and use that wealth to finance wars, to lobby governments, to destroy small nations, those who are influential to manipulate social engineers to steer Social Movements, to financially support the creation of think-tanks which yank and pull the larger forces in a society so all are affected.

Could we get on board with one another??

I support no system…I study systems. I am not political…I study Political Science.

I made that remark to one of the moderators when first I subscribed, so doubt that I could have contributed to any earlier statistics.......

Just an observation.
