If time stopped, wouldn't all time-dependent instances (existence) cease? Further, can there be such an existence as a time-independent existence?

Time doesn't exist nobody.
We are the ''witness'' the invisible 'face' observing. ALL THIS
THIS is an apparent play, playing... not separate from YOU
Yet YOU can never be found
meaningless, infinite, formless.
YOU cannot be known
Yet as number form and meaning... inseparable from the knowing of it.
YOU are known.
ALL THIS arises in the timelessness of NOW!

It has been said that death is the end of the apparent s(c)een reality and the beginning of a cognizance in uns(c)een Ultimate Reality.
Some see that (realize)sooner than others (e.g. before the actual demise of the mind/body organism), but each apparent individual contains the capacity for this Consciousness to arise (through unification with the fragmented Oneness within) IF each apparent individual becomes one with it/that and can envision it.
The light of discernment must be focused inward in order to locate and become the one again.
In order for this to happen the desire must be intense and above all else. More than this apparent life itself, so it was said, "To lose one's life for my sake is to gain it". "For what would it profiteth a man to gain the whole world and lose his very own soul?" By way of our soul within we find individual capacity/strength/identity for this higher-harmonic of Consciousness.

Me either Mel, I first encountered the word in HPB.s Isis Unveiled some years ago and didn't fully understand the import at that time. Since then, I have encounered it numerous times. The meaning finally registered. How liberating. Very intelligent/knowing lady. Columbia Encyclopedia: transmigration of souls
or metempsychosis ( mətĕm'səkō'sĭs) [Gr.,=change of soul], a belief common to many cultures, in which the soul passes from one body to another, either human, animal, or inanimate.
Metempsychosis is a fundamental doctrine of several religions originating in India. In Hinduism, the individual soul enters a new existence after the death of the body. The sum total of past moral conduct, or karma, determines the condition of the soul and the quality of its rebirth. The cycle of rebirth is eternal unless the soul is released by knowledge or arduous effort (see yoga). This release ( moksha or mukti) is a form of salvation, and is possible only for the most devout. Buddhist doctrine does not accept the soul or transmigration as such, treating both as illusory. Rather, there is an eternal, undifferentiated stream of being ( samsara). Out of this, existences are produced and prolonged according to karma, or past actions. The individual is not a separate entity, but rather a grouping of elements. They revert to the original primal stream when desire, the cause of the transmigratory cycle, ceases. Only devout Buddhists or saints (i.e., those who abandon all desire) are able to realize this oneness. http://www.answers.com/metempsychosi...0.609&method=3

I know people, and I am sure you do also, who are always dissatisfied with their lives and are desperately searching for satisfaction. Some imagine they will find satisfaction in their work, so they go from job to job, never finding perfect the perfect fit. Other's think satisfaction is what they can get out of a relationship with another person. So these folks drift from relationship to relationship, unable to give of themselves and never receiving very much from others. Still others settle for fleeting sensual pleasures rather than lasting satisfaction. They end up abusing alcohol or drugs. Some see life as a series of meaningless sexual encounters. While others desire so much of what others have that hey steal, or even kill, to get what they want.
Why do people waste their lives in these meaningless pursuits? Sigmund Freud spent a lot of time years observing human thought and behavior, struggling to find the answers for this human delima. He concluded that it is just our nature. No matter what we have, it is never enough. People cannot be satisfied because they are selfish; they always want more. Freud thought our condition was hopeless.
But that's not what God thinks!
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgements about all things, but he himself is ot subject to man's judgement: 'For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?' But we have the mind of Christ. ~1 Corintians 2:14-16

Paul Brunton was a follower of Ramana Maharshi and he elaborated extensively on the concept of the oversoul, as did HPB.
Bith very intelligent authors.
The oversoul is like the Atman of the Bhagavad Gita or the Christ consciousness of the Bible or Brahman and the Parabrahman in the Hindu tradition. Quote:
