The christ doesn't appear literally.
the second coming is ... another metaphor for Self Realization.
While incarnate.
The christ is in us all along, we are the christ.

And the anti christ in us ... is the one that reveals the real christ in us.

The Gnostic Buddha

Ego I would presume, is the anti-Christ. if so it might be said.

Our higher Self [higher than our ego's that is] is the Christ within we [as our lower selves] "awaken too".

Ever think of the anti-christ (identity with separate existence in the world) and the second coming of christ (identity with the Source) in a both/and way...as the opposing ends of a duality that is actually not two...yin/yang...dark/light...?
