By "absence of consciousness" in my earlier question, I was positing a universal condition in which consciousness as a phenomenon did not exist. If this were the case, SCIENTIFICALLY, you could not make the statement "the absence of consciousness would not effect the brain in any way" because there would be no way to observe, test and measure this hypothesis. Or...is there really such a thing as "unconscious observation"..."unconscious empiricism"? Who would know?

The brain creates consciousness, it creates belief, it creates judgement. However let me reiterate it has nothing to do with an Universal TOE, except unravelling the mystery. | http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=G_Outg...eature=related ''Whether the whole world forsakes you or bows down before you, you remains as you are'' = PERFECT | |

Do you think that reality exists in anything other than a superposed state of potential in the absence of consciousness? Did the universe not "pop" into its collapsed state until brains evolved?

Before there was consciousness, the Universe always existed almost as it is now. However consciousness only helped unravel the mysteries.. Quote:

"If those who hold that there must be a physical basis for everything hold that these mystical views are nonsense, we may ask: What, then, is the physical basis of nonsense?"

it is self evident...no proof required.
and not only that .. where is this assumed self that would try to prove something?
where is this self .. can you find it?
and supposing you did find it ... how can you prove that you have?

I just sometimes find it amusing to quote highly respected physicists and investigative scientists, in the truest sense of the word, on some of the topics for discussion that have come up here. e.g. Erwin Schrodinger said:
"We do not belong to this material world that science constructs for us. We are not in it, we are outside. We are only spectators. The reason why we believe that we are in it, that we belong to the picture, is that our bodies are in the picture."

Everybody has their own viewpoint. When I look at a ToE (physics), I exclude everything emotional and biological, because I believe that a ToE cannot contain metaphysics. Quote:
