    Re: Simply Relativity v2

I'm not so advanced as you are, but how is spin explained with relativity in a mechanical sense as a vortex. Does it mean that a field vortex around an electron will travel in a circle at the speed of light and if the field is forced to say leave the electron it will travel at the velocity but loose its spin. The average speed would be rotation from the speed of light to zero speed -- this would mean that at the average speed or rotation it will take twice as much time to rotate as for a stationary spin. Is this the reason for 1/2 spin?

Spin is the measure of how you can rotate an object and define symmetries against said rotation.

I like to think of a line, pencil, a plate, and a ball.

If you rotate a line 180 degrees, it looks the same as it did before you turned it.

    Spin 2.

A pencil has to be rotated 360 degrees to return to the original state, though it's symmetry nearly falls back into phase after 180 degrees.

    Spin 1.

A plate held on your palm (with an arrow drawn on it) can be rotated 360 degrees to bring the arrow back to the original orientation, but your elbow will be twisted around and pointing upwards, you must rotate it completely again before you return the entire system to it's original state.

    Spin 1/2.

A ball appears unchanged no matter how you rotate it.

    Spin 0.

    Re: Simply Relativity v2

I take it that spin is not an average rotational speed. I you observed the magnetic field of an electron and and you would have to make two rotations to find the field vector in the same position as when started. Is this right? In other words if you started at the north pole and went around the electron to where the south pole should be it isn't there but is where the north pole used to be. this means the electrons poles shift as you measure it.

Spin is relativistic in that photon field particles must travel theory an aether at the speed of light. The rotation must slow with time as the clock does in Einstein's special theory of relativity to maintain the speed of light if the orbit is quantitized. Do you see it this way? I really wonder why the poles flip as in those drawings of spin turning inside out.

Yeah, has nothing to do with rotational speed, more akin to rotational symmetry, I always wondered why they didn't use the term rotational symmetry, but spin sounds cooler, and can be read "you regain this much symmetry each time you spin the object once" so one spin gives 1/2 symmetry to an electron, two spins restores the original symmetry.

I'm going to get to the bottom of this one way or another -- does spin mean that a field is moving in a circle at the speed of light? Is it a vortex like a tornado having pressure differentials that is what we call magnetism?

Nope, spin has nothing to do with things actually rotating in a quantum mechanical sense.

That is why the entire electric universe thing those guys on that thunderbolts site is so silly.

Spin is only a reference to the rotational symmetry of something. That is all.
