Stopping light only requires infinite density or zero pressure since the square of light speed is equal to the ratio of pressure over density or the same as saying that the product of vacuum permittivity and vacuum permeability is an extremely large absolute magnitude.

On the contrary, LASERs allow light to oscillate within a reflective cavity until their energies are greater than the index of refraction to escape total internal reflection. If we can do the same for phonons then we have cold fusion using sound waves.
