    A Theory of Consciousness, Life and Computation

    I think I finally found a missing link that I've been looking for ... and it's right in the middle of DNA (I'd assumed it was but couldn't figure out why there were spirals, much less two and it seemed one should be a virtual/exterior mirroring of the other where information flows between surfaces).

    Imagine for a second that there exists some system of potentially infinite complexity, yet entirely connected together - a single life form.

    Now how could it be seen as a single entity? Not all components are the entirety of it.

    In order that it can be perceived as a single structure, a manner to address and view the state of all components is required, but this cannot be a simultaineous thing throughout the entire system, otherwise all positions would appear identical and it would "collapse" into a singularity.

    Information loss is irreversible in information theory. When information content is removed, it can't be reacquired, though we can split information into pieces over time and transmit an entire picture in that manner, but not simultaneously.

    Now imagine trying to use a colored light to communicate with someone in another universe - let's assume all they can detect is a red, green or blue state.

    Well if you try to send something like 5 seconds of green, 12 seconds of blue and 3 seconds of red, on the receiving side this simply appears as green, blue, red and the time component is removed because they can't see your time (time is physics is observer dependent).

    Now similarly, if we tried to send 1 second of green and then 1 second the light was off and then sent another 1 second of green, this "off" state is not detected either and effectively you sent 2 seconds of green, which is once again, simply green.

    If we look at what information is transmittable with these 3 states, we find it's fundamentally just binary information. From any of these 3 colors, there are 2 possible alternatives.

    Now this applies to any number of states in a system. If there are n states being observed, then only n-1 possible transitions in time are detected. Notice also that the dimensionality or qualities of the transmission are no longer the same either - green, red or blue are not, in themselves views but instead the 6 possible transitions of "green->red", "green-blue", "red->green", "red-blue", "blue->green" and "blue->red".

    So the "observer" in this case detects 1 of 6 possible states, that fundamentally communicate binary information and each of those 6 states has 2 possible divergent pathways of experience.

    If we look at the volume of possible spaces that can be observed in this manner by communication, the size grows factorially 1*2*3*... or 1,2,6,24,120,720,...

    If we have a system of 120 components, then synchronization in time is possible using 7 (120=1*2*3*4*5*6) "symbols" or unique qualities of perceptions.

    Each of the 6 state rotations can communicate in 1 of 6 possible direction, up to 1 of 5 possible transitions (it is in 1 of 6 states, but transitions in time to one of 5 other states each moment) to a "5 dimensional space", which in turn can transmit 1 of 4 transitions to a "4 dimensional" space etc.

    We can then "leap frog" information back up to higher levels by observing multiple states in lower dimensions - for example, observing 2 binary states simultaineously gives 1 of 4 possible combinations (00,01,10,11) and so binary information can be paired together into a 4 dimensional representation.

    I've commented a lot on how logic appears to operate over time and fundamentally everything can be broken down to a single, lowest fundamental unit of time. Though recognize that "time" is relative and passes at different rates in different dimensions of representation - more complexity and higher rates of information and "denser" rates of time are possible in higher dimensional forms.

    The properties of this fundamentally lowest level of information are much like DNA and I've used that analogy often, with the higher dimensional features similar to correlations across the strand that can act like chemical binding forces and cause DNA to fold. (This is the link I've been trying to find with matter - atoms should be defined by their positions relative to this "DNA" - it's not DNA in a physical sense, except at lower dimensional representations, a large "atom" in this structure could be similar to the entire universe (though it wouldn't be an atom we'd find on a periodic table! ... at least not yet)

    But it was difficult to figure out how information is communicated across these dimensions in a physical form - it's sitting in the middle of DNA (at least the final leaves of the "tree").



    Assume for a second we have an object in 1 of 5 possible states and it's transmitting information over time as 1 of 4 possible transitions.

    If this object can be in any one of those 5 states at any time, then on average 1/5th of its states are seen as identical in the "4 dimensional" representation and hence there's a 5:4 ratio in the equivalent rates of time that are passing.

    If we want to keep these synchronized in time in a single space, we need to compensate for this ratio, which means we need to compress 5 elements in time for one into 4 elements in time for the other.

    If we lay them next to each other, they curl in one direction, though if we want to "straighten" this out, we can instead wrap one around the other! The 5 dimensional "strand" can be twisted into a pentagonal form around the other (and we have ratios of phi or the golden mean and the fibonacci series etc. arise)

    There is a 5 way symmetry near the center of a strand of DNA (though it appears as 10 way symmetry, but considering that in lower dimensional representations, the asymmetry of a higher dimensional structure isn't visible, then the two strands appear to be interwoven as a double helix!

    Notice also the manner in which the very interior of DNA is constructed by weak hydrogen bonds - in a sense, this is a virtual mirror image of the "edge" of "reality"/objective space/coherent information, though it can appear to possess inverse/complimetary properties inherited by observation of the return path.

    And similar to how we can pair up binary elements into a representation with 4 distinct states, there are similarly 4 types of base pairs (in reality there should be a transformation that shows this as binary elements with a virtual partner). So this can provide the mechanism moving from 5 dimensional space (consider that the senses are generally of 5 "orthogonal" forms - sight, touch, taste, smell, feel ... I don't know if that's the correct correlation, but it appears close - notice that science can't "see" conscious qualities because these can vary between people, and similarly physics doesn't have good models past 4 dimensions yet).

    Anyway, there are many more correlations and if it may not be a Theory of Everything, it looks to at least be a decent Theory of Consciousness, Life and Computation.

    There's still more outside this picture that we can't physical prove and we can look in a more horizontal direction as well as attempt to extrapolate what properties lie further "up" as well. (Again, information only flows one way in a sense, though if the model appears to be true, we can extrapolate upon what physical properties might exist in higher dimensions.

    I think subatomic particles may be virtual mirrors of this process and it could be that we need go no lower than individual protons.

    Well, that's the latest piece that seemed to fall into place ... (I'm almost embarrassed to mention some of the correlations with reproduction, but it appears to be there also and there's definitely a Yin-Yang version of it)

    As a side comment - this structure does not appear to explain the qualities of conscious perceptions though it can show manners in which they should naturally be grouped or related to each other in a specific context of space.

    I don't mean to try to spread any sensationalist stuff around, but I was looking for a decent image of DNA to show and the article it happened to be attached to was quite interesting (and it's actually something I've commented on before as I do believe such correlations should exist though I'd assumed they were already present in the normal chemical bonding, except for higher dimensional correlations would likely not be representable in 3 dimensional space, so I wouldn't be surprised to find this true):

    Hi Steve…I mentioned to you the other day that Exopolitics was studying Psycho-kinetics and DNA.

    In relationship to your thread here and your link above,
    when I experienced the integration of my consciousness a huge part of it involved the experience of exceptional telepathic abilities. Of course over the passing ages we lost a lot of our self-knowledge as the battle between the spiritual/religious and rulers raged on. So there was nothing there for anyone to tell me that the experience of higher visual information was normal or that my telepathic experiences were normal—so it became a frightening experience I had to work through until these parts of consciousness began to settle down and stabilize.

    It was directly because of the telepathic experiences I began to study and research. I simply knew I was quite sane but undergoing a revolution and evolution of my own consciousness but synthesizing an understanding of that was impossible without knowledge to align with it.

    Thus began my suspicions that it all had something to do with hyper-active biology—evolution and maturity in our nervous system through the integration of the system as a whole (body, sense, perception, biology, brain, heart, nerves, mind, consciousness)—the opening up of higher circuits in the brain that have links to DNA and matter being spiritualized and the creation of new cell life between the entire system and DNA.

    That’s about where I am at right now and of course searching everywhere for studies that are relevant to that direction as to our understanding….

    I will come back with more comments Steve...but early shift tomorrow morning and feeling tired from so much fresh air and relaxation this long week-end....smiles...

    Thank you for the reply, Mikal. I know you've been interested in this subject and that article sparked my interest.

    I did find a couple links related to that article on DNA, though it is rather technical (that's not an area that's my forte - I was actually just thinking of what the best method for physical communication could be, considering time and independent observer "clocks" and that branching structure appeared the natural form ... again, something that nature would likely have found, but then again it could be the other way around and the properties of nature arise from life, communication and intelligence)

    I've been coming more and more to think that atomic properties arise from the properties of DNA - in other words, we likely see matter and chemical reactions as we do because of this DNA nervous system and that the cause is not necessarily the other way around where atoms create DNA. Life creates intelligence and communicates and these are expressed physically as atoms - that seems more likely, or at least something that can resolve the mind/body duality. Then again, it may be that neither created the other - they're just simply the same thing. Space should also be composed of the equivalent of molecular chains of communication (it looks empty, but that's simply because it's the pathway of communication - a computer doesn't see a wire and the body doesn't "see" its nervous system. The vacuum energies are largely products of these higher dimensional components being superimposed into a 3-d space, so they're criss-crossing and superimposed upon each other - hence why we have a wave properties of light, because it's not traveling in straight lines through space, but is like the corpuscle theories, like arteries and matter is similar to where the information intersects and is processed and rerouted/retransmitted - yes, I'm a computer geek so those are the terms I tend to think in, but there are many different analogies that could be used)

    One thing interesting is that it supposedly occurs only with larger segments of DNA (specifically 50-150 base pairs was mentioned, which should be the equivalent of 100-300 binary digits).

    From my guesses, I've assumed only smaller prime relationships are possible to fit coherently in 3 dimensions. For example, we could take the primes 2, 3 and 5 (penrose tilings) and construct many such types of symmetries in space including 2*3=6 (3 dimensional, positive and negative directions) way symmetry or 2*2*2=8 way symmetry (cube vertices)

    etc.

    But 7 way symmetries appear difficult and we have higher order primes that would appear to not have easy manners of representation in space other than as very distributed/large scale correlations, similar to quantum entanglement between particles.

    Such a phenomenon could explain these correlations (notice that if this was true, we might find that chaotic properties in the universe are not quite as chaotic as might initially be assumed and if that was the case, it's more likely a manner to dig down into quantum noise exists and then potentially communicate faster than light speed but removing some of the limits arising from noise - there are many faster than light phenomenon, but they aren't useful for communication because of the noise component).

    Here's something else - if we look at the stability of atoms, there appears to similarly be a prime number sequence 2, 3, 5 and 7, after which the atoms can't remain stably represented in space (it's assumed the atoms decay, but this may not be the case - they may instead remain entangled as a heavy atom but become a more distributed correlation across space).



    Notice that we have pairs of rings (2 way symmetry) and these "rotate" into new dimensions of atomic properties (magnetic and radioctive) in segments that are 2*3, 2*5 and 2*7 long.

    Anyway, I think there's something in there as well.

    Now here's another quite interesting correlation. Assuming the above theory is true, it's likely we should find a number of base pairs in DNA closely correlated to a factorial.

    13!=1*2*3*4*5*6*7*8*9*10*11*12*13 ~= 6.2 billion

    It could be that human DNA is constructed in a fundamentally 13 dimensional space (that's a few more than most String Theories ... )

    If we look at the first binary dimension (male/female), we have half of these from each parent or 6.2 billion/2=3.1 billion

    Here's another interesting correlation, a 4 dimensional structure can describe 24 possible vertices.

    If we look at DNA, there are 23 chromosomes, with a total of 24 endpoints or alternately if you count the X and Y chromosomes as separate in a male, there are 24 chromosomes.

    I'm going to do a little speculation and say that the 3 dimensions of space are capable of representing 2, 3 and 5 way symmetries (though 5 way symmetries can appear as irrational sequences http://www.google.com/images?q=penro...N&hl=en&tab=wi)



    If that's the case, then we can check the factors of each of these spaces:

    2=2
    3=3
    4=2*2
    5=5
    6=2*3
    7=7
    8=2*2*2
    9=3*3
    10=2*5
    11=11
    12=2*2*3
    13=13

    And then we'd have 3 dimensions that may have no physical representation in 3 dimensions.

    That's just a possible correlation with string theory. If we assume stationary properties of particles arise from 2 and 3 way symmetries, and the irrational, chaotic relationship over space arise from 5 way symmetries, then we could have information flowing between dimensions 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 describe particles and information passing through these but including 5 and/or 10 as the extended chaotic forces over time and 7, 11 and 13 (7*11*13=1001 states ... wow, that's very close to 10^3=1000 and there might be a reason why we have 10 fingers and tend to use decimal representations. In terms of information mismatch, there's only ~1/2000th, or a single unit difference in volume between a perfectly symmetrical 10x10x10 cube in 3 dimensions and an asymmetrical 7x11x13 rectangular volume ... if a single asymmetrical mental state was masked, these could appear to be superimposed into a single 10 way symmetry arbitrarily constructable in 3 dimensions. Of course 10 is factored into 2*5 and could be similar to the symmetry of 2 arms or 2 legs and 5 fingers or toes on each, with these moving within a 3 dimensional space).

    At 13, that should be the most creative/energetic/unpredictable dimension in this structure. 7 could be associated with something like short term memory and if we look at these two similar to future(creative)/short term memory(conscious past), then 11 might be similar to a mental representation of the present.

    ... I'm just guessing, trying to connect the dots, but it appears there's a strong correlation possible.

    Additional there would be the realms of interactions between both the stable spacial symmetries of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12 and the irrational, dynamic spacial dimensions 5 and 10 that include flows to any of the likely more mental/conscious dimensions of 7, 11 and 13.

    Now consider that with 6.2 billion binary digits in human DNA, we have 2^13! ~= 10^(1870000000) possible positions within this space! (That's a 1 followed by almost 2 billion 0s)

    (I wonder how many equivalent planck volumes of spacetime that encapsulates. I'm rather certain that encapsulates a lot more than the universe has since the Big Bang. We do have a lot of symmetries that might be physically invalid though and reduce this. There's also a mismatch in the types of spaces being converted, but in any case it's huge)

    I'm still trying to piece this together, but it looks like there are some definite correlations possible here and I have some hope that with a bit of precision, it will click into place.

    Interesting….Chetwynd (1982) noted the association of 7 to time—whereas space is the dimension of matter, time is the dimension of spirit. In the 3+4 is seen energy and movement in contrast with matter or substance, or rather the combination of static substance and dynamic movement, the 4 representing static substance (4 square block of reality) and the 3 dynamic movement in (7) time.

    Jung mused, “3 ½ + 3 ½ is two spirals as periods of time (7)—inward circumambulations (3 ½ cycle) inward toward the center and (3 ½ cycle) outward circumambulations in order to return to the world and reality. (Jung was here discussing the stages or cycles of completion of pscyhe/consciousness.)

    7 represents a deeper meaningfulness constructed in the psyche as having in part a psycho-biological origin, due to a certain structure in the human nervous system and certain developmental processes. The structures and processes would have influence on the psyche which sets limits on human perception and corresponding reactions.     That's a very interesting comment regarding Jung's ideas of a symmetrical splitting of dimensions, (in the example of 7 being describable as 3 1/2 + 3 1/2) and I had some similar thoughts.

    If we think of a point in 3 dimensional space, these are incompatible and "dual" representations. In a sense they don't both exist within the same space and can't be described as the same "thing". One is contained by and inside the other and possesses different properties, but truly the space and point are both needed as a point has no properties if it's removed from the space (a point could exist anywhere and in a sense describes the simultaneous properties of all points in all spaces), though we could instead split these properties in half and have both a point and its associated space become something quite similar to a fractal surface (in 3 dimensions this would be 1 1/2 dimensions each with an interior and adjacent exterior (kind of like a tree "seeing" the air immediately surrounding it, though the observer should be larger and the "encompassing" component, so it would instead be a better analogy of the air "feeling" a tree).

    I use the tree analogy because I think of time as similar to a growth/expansion along pathways. Though in a sense logic only sees the outward growth, whereas the more creative/energy components can loop back toward the "trunk" and add new "branches".

    Notice that in the last form, the "seed" becomes a right angle, yet it fills up the 2 dimensional space completely.

    So in a sense, we can describe both a space and an object within it by describing a curvature and fundamentally all curvatures create circles, with point origins and the "space" is the length of the perimeter or wavelength.

    All spaces have an origin and in a sense, we don't need to specifically describe every space as having an origin because it is implicit, so we can then describe all spaces as simply curvature that is just the reciprocal of the wavelength. So the curvature, or angle of change each unit step is similar to an energy deflecting a motion and all such energies pass through an origin.

    The origin is not at the center of this circle though, as that's a disconnected representation. It's a point on the perimeter of each of these. All spaces need to be connected to an observer and hence all such wavelengths/spaces/energies need a position in which they intersect. We have discrete units and so these are not actually circles, but regular polygons. If we additionally unite the vertices and edges as being the "same", then every polygon should share a single side.

    And this could be seen similar to an observer looking from the single common edge on the top of this toward the rest of this structure (sort of reminds of me Fredricks pyramid model, especially considering that the first two elements, other than 1 and 2 (as the first point and first edge) then we have 3 and 4 way symmetry, like a pyramid.

    The structure of DNA is like having these as nested spirals around each other (sort of like a spirograph where we rotate one ring around one adjacent to it)

    Here's another interesting nesting, along similar lines:



    "Time" in each layer is probabilistic/statistical and occurs at slower and slower rates toward the interior and this mismatch in times creates the appearance of bends, curvatures or surfaces of objects in the space and we can describe these as a ratio n/n+1, for example one possible curvature is 3:4 (communication from the square into the triangle).

    There's an interesting physical theory that goes along these lines also called the "Reciprocal System" http://rstheory.org/ where all physical properties are described as pairs of two numbers. I tried to study some of it before but it was difficult to wrap my thoughts around it . It would be fun to try to see if there are 1 to 1 correlations in the terminology in that with my ideas. He supposedly managed to construct some quite detailed and successful models of atomic properties from it, and it would be great if I could similarly find all the links to atomic properties embedded in this.

    There is the equivalent if a single (faster than light speed - light and photons are not the same thing. Light is constructed from multiple photons and can't "informationally travel" as fast as a single photon) photon that orbits around the outer ring, but the transitions along this generate lower dimensional changes as well and each ring communicates to its adjacent ring, though it's a single photon traversing pathways in a high dimensional space along the outer ring and it "falls" inward, toward shorter wavelengths. (these are really wavelengths in a different form of space though and they have reciprocal relationships to physical space).

    The information conveyable in each ring is the same as being able to select 1 of n things. These rings can be superimposed upon each other and this generates a more chaotic vortex type structure and this also allows information to be reconveyed to higher dimensional states by combining smaller quantities of information, synchronously in time together to describe a higher dimensional form that is not solely a regular polygon.

    This is similar to timbers of instruments and chord structures in music and a "higher dimensional" form is similar to hearing a complete chord with various instruments. This is also like taking atoms and combining them together into molecules.

    If we look at this more fundamentally, the space is always one of conscious qualities (the universe doesn't exist beyond our ability to detect, observe and interact etc. with it and we do this via. conscious experiences and actions, hence all the properties of it that we derive as existing are built from consciousness).

    If we look at vision, the eyes do not see in 3 dimensions. They see 2 stereoscopic views of 2-d surfaces. Similarly, touch is also a 2 dimensional surface. Gravity at any instant of time could be seen as a force pointing in some direction, for example, similar to latitude/longtitude).

    3 dimensions only arise over time (we have time to learn depth perception, or time to feel a vibration from the interior of an object or time to determine changes in a gravitational force and those changes in it can then be used to determine distances).

    Hearing is basically just 2 quantities at any instant (the instantaneous position of both eardrums). Over time we have these change and this generates fluctuations, which are interpreted as sounds. Taste is similarly a small collection of quantities (basically there are just a few qualities of taste that are combined in various ways, similar to how red, green, blue and "black" (to "dilute" the intensity or energy) can be used to generate all colors).

    ... dang, I could write volumes but I need to get to work to pay the bills to keep various stomachs around here fed, but there are definitely a lot of things coming together

    I know these aren't easy concepts to work with and terminology and various preferences of expression vary between people and this makes it difficult to communicate about the ideas and they're still a bit vague for myself as well, but I know there's quite a lot in this and I think there could be a way to untangle many chaotic structures and simplify things like fluid dynamics and turbulence, which could be quite revolutionary, if possible.

    Thanks for your comments, Mikal. Don't worry about trying to understand all of this, but I have a feeling at least a couple things in it will mesh with some of your ideas as well.

    Thanks Steve…you’re very good at this I see. Now this may be food for thought for you.
    Are you familiar with George Miller’s journal article, Psychological Review (1956) where he records a study he did into the human nervous system where he stated that testing revealed that our nervous system seems incapable of determining arrays of more than six items without failure—he was basing his study on the significance of the number 7.

    His study revealed….receiving, processing and memory of information.

    Hearing—6 tones of pitch and 5 volumes of loudness
    Taste—4 distinct concentrations of salinity
    Sight—10-15 scale markers of visual positions
    Touch—4 intensities, 5 durations, 7 locations.

    I find it interesting that Touch (feeling/emotional) seems to have built-in complexity beyond the other senses. This struck me because common to the integration of consciousness is the necessity to experience the mushrooming of feeling tone behind thought which produces a steady progression of stages from one state to another. In these stages, there is wrestling with the conscience, feeling sensitive to forces negotiating the passage as the thoughts and deeds of life rise and the experiencer is forced to look upon them—then after a painful experience of being purged there comes a sense of being unburdened of personal history.


    The number 11 is interesting! On the earth it represents ley lines which anchor energy on the earth, so too the unknown structure of the psyche and DNA is thought to be represented by the number 11. So the ley lines in the earth which anchor energy may also represent higher circuits in the human brain which are anchoring psychic energy—especially in the experience of the psyche projecting onto reality the concretization of psychic fact, projected as symbols and higher fragments of visual information which the mind must canalize.

    It is thought that 11 represents information encoded in cellular memory (archetypal layers in the psyche) which cannot be accessed but through that 3 ½ inner circumambulation to the center—possibly this inner circumambulation is the progression of stages that connect and integrate the entire system with DNA and matures the human nervous system to a higher level of functioning.

    I am wondering if the number 13 has anything to do with
