Lol, I know of the technique and am glad to hear that one of us is able to still accomplish it. And I can see some truth to the point you make about the answer awaits the question. I just haven't figured out the right question yet.

Dear Bogie, Let's have it.
Prithivi (Earth) Tattwa:
Prithivi is the earth tattwa and the force of solidity. It is said to enable one to be steady for a long time. Its color is yellow. The breath forms a shape of a quadrangle when in Prithivi. It is said that the flow of prithivi tends to endurance, and that it flows neither fast nor slow. Using the body as a metaphor to describe the tattwas, the prithivi is considered to be the feet. Prithivi is said to have moderate motion and heat. The force of Prithivi flows to the end of sternum, 12 fingers-breadths down. Prithivi rids the body of desire, makes the body substantial, and brings sound health. It causes prana (life force) to gradually increase during the day.
The aspirant should do acts which are expected to last long time when the breath is in prithivi (i.e. 12 finger- breadths).
Prithivi is associated with success, especially when left nostril is active. In terms of food, prithivi is related to the digestion of sweets. When right breath is active, one should eat oats or buttermilk. When left is active one is encouraged to take rice, milk, and fruits. Prithivi is also associated with pleasure, growth, affection, playfulness, and laughter. Success is attained in strenuous activities when right nostril is active in Prithivi.
Apas (Water) Tattwa:
Apas is the water tattwa, and its force is concentration. It is said to make one calm. Its shape is semicircular or crescent. The color visualized for Apas is white. The flow of Apas is downward. Apas is associated with the knees. It is a cooling force. It has a rapid motion, and gives success in all good works. Its results are immediate. Apas is said to relieve hunger and thirst and to ameliorate the effect of poisons. The breath in Apas moves down 16 finger-breadths to the navel.
Due to Apas, prana (life force) is increasingly activated during the night. Apas is considered a most auspicious tattwa, which should be kept circulating for a considerable time. Apas is associated with success in all acts, especially when the breath is in left nostril. Temporary or passing acts should be done with Apas. With regard to food, Apas is involved with fluids and liquids, and is especially associated with the digestion of astringents. One may also take oils in Apas. When the breath is in lest nostril, one should take ghee (clarified butter); when in right nostril, buttermilk. Apas controls the dosha (detrimental effect) of cold. Apas is also associated with pleasure, growth, affection, and laughter.
Tejas (Fire) Tattwa:
The fire tattwa, tejas, Its force is expansion, and the breath in tejas produces an upward-pointed triangular shape. Its color is red. The flow of tejas is upward. This tattwa is associated with warmth. It makes the body light and enables one to walk great distances, and control of this tattwa enables one to overcome gravity.
The flow of left nostril in tejas tends towards destruction, death, and decay. Generally this is not an auspicious tattwa; it is associated with loss, death, and the performance of harsh acts. Tejas is also associated with fever, trembling, lack of power in the bodily organs and the process of leaving one’s body. But when breath is in right nostril flow in tejas, it sustains life. Tejas allows one to consume great quantities of food or drink, and to endure burning heat. When flow of left nostril in tejas one should eat fruits. The breath in tejas whirls is light, and flow down 4 finger-breadths to the chin.
Vayu (Air) Tattwa:
Vayu tattwa is related to the element air and the force of motion. Its color is blue, and its shape is circular. It is localized in the centre between the two breasts.
Vayu brings about the reduction of breath. Vayu is also considered to be generally inauspicious, causing loss and death. The absence of power in the organs, the presence of fever or trembling, and departure from one’s body are also associated with vayu. Vayu is considered to be appropriate for performing ferocious acts, such as those on the battlefield. It gives only fleeting success. The breath in vayu is either hot or cold in temperature, and it flows down 8 finger-breadths. It also flows in acute angles. Vayu digests acids and is associated with cereals and root-foods. When left breath is in vayu one should eat vegetables. Vayu tattwa controls the detrimental effect of wind in the system.
Akasha (Space) tat
Space is the constituent of the Akasha tattwa. Its aspect is pervasiveness, and its shape is described as space punctured with black hole (not that black hole you are thinking). Its color is described as “spotted” or the color that foreshadows all colors, a kind of opalescence. It is located in the head and flows transversely. Akasha is common to all the tattwas, foreshadows the qualities of all, and is said to try to mix all the tattwas. It is considered a useless tattwa for all acts except higher spiritual practices, in which case it leads to the state of Samadhi (Super consciousness/transcendental state). It enables the aspirant to hear distant sounds, to have power over the breath, and to know the past, present and future. Akasha digests the bitter portion of food. One should take salty food in Akasha. When akasha is predominant a burning sensation.
REad and you will know.
Thank you for laying out the five tattwas and the fine points of each. I can see that they provide a complete framework upon which to evaluate one's state and to serve as guide to how to control one's inner self toward the higher spiritual practices. I find a striking comparison between life based on tattwas and life based on reflection, contemplation and meditation.
To me the main difference between a life lived in reverence of the tattwas and a life lived using the inner reflection I refer to is more one of the structure of the path to enlightenment than of arriving at a different place.
Dear Bogie: It is always wiser to look into our being before we look into the outer cosmos. We are the observer. Whatever lies outside lies inside an observer. He must scan his reflection. That is why it is utmost necessary to know the limitation of one's senses and to go beyond them. This is enlightenment.
Tattwas are only preliminary things.I have not gone into details. There are other things which we are to find out in our body. I shall give you the details once I find curiosity in you. One thing; In concentration we loose our body consciousness and in meditation we loose our mind.Good luck. nathhald.
